Considering Retirement?

If you are considering retirement, please take time to read the University of Cambridge Retirements policy, which can be located by clicking here.

How do I claim my pension?

Whether you are still employed by the University or have already left, claiming your USS pension is straightforward.

If you are still an active member of USS:

Formally notify the Pensions Office in writing of your intention to retire, at least three months prior to your intended retirement date.

The Pensions Office will send you a statement of your benefits, together with the relevant forms to complete to claim the pension.

Return the forms stating which pension / lump-sum combination you wish to take, together with your bank account details, and your pension and lump-sum (if chosen) will be paid from your retirement date.

If you are no longer an active member of USS:

Formally notify the USS of your intention to retire, at least three months prior to your intended retirement date. Please write to USS directly at:

USS Ltd

Royal Liver Building

USS will send you a statement of your benefits, together with the relevant forms to complete to claim the pension.

Return the forms stating which pension / lump-sum combination you wish to take, together with your bank account details, and your pension and lump-sum (if chosen) will be paid from your retirement date.
